Art Absolument was founded in 2002 and has since developed across several areas of activity, for the main publishing the eponymous magazine and putting on exhibitions in its new gallery space, Espace Art Absolument. These two activities endeavour to showcase the diversity of artists in France and around the world and contribute to writing a new chapter of the history of art, one that will be an integral, long-term part of cultural movements and contemporary thinking. Art Absolument has also devised an events programme that sets out to forge ties between established and talented emerging artists, as illustrated by Elles d'abord ! and Terres d'artistes, the two most recent shows to be held in its new premises at the Carrefour de l'Odéon (Paris), which were inaugurated in September 2024.
For Art Paris 2025, Art Absolument has given carte blanche to Paris-based artist Malala Andrialavidrazana (1971). The latter’s works have recently been exhibited in several international shows, for example at the Sharjah Biennial and the Tate Modern in 2023, or more recently at the Palais de Tokyo. Andrialavidrazana will be presenting a previously unseen “digital embroidery” at Art Paris that takes the form of a 7-metre-long section of wallpaper entitled Rolling Figures 4.0. Other compositions that were designed especially for the event will also be on display, in addition to Figures 1905 and Magnetic Parallels. These two creations from the "Figures" series that Andrialavidrazana began in 2015 are emblematic of her work. In order to address questions relating to enslavement, colonisation and the expansion of industrial capitalism, not forgetting the place of women in history and the stereotypes conveyed by disguised propaganda, these works provide an overview of a large amount of archive documents. Combining humour, sarcasm and poetry, Andrialavidrazana suggests other ways for images, ideas and people to circulate and, in so doing, creates alternative narratives that contribute to challenging a way of thinking that now belongs to the past.
