Boaz is the legend. It is the postulate of the project and it is the community where he lives who decided it, for people need a surface where to project their desire for transcendance ; Boaz is this surface. Yet, him didn’t ask for nothing. He would rather be like any other boy of his age. But he accepts his duty and therefore is nothing, he doesn’t exist by himself and only lives for them.

Moving Inland, Manuel Stehli, Galerie Margo
06-23-2021 at 11:00 am

Galerie Marguo is pleased to present Moving Inland, a body of new paintings by Swiss-Czech artist Manuel Stehli, on view at the gallery from 23 June to 24 July, 2021.

The paintings presented in Moving Inland – plants, landscapes, pairs of hands and groups of figures arranged in careful repose – seem to linger in an interminable moment composed of dusty pastel hues and geometric distillations, like prototypes for an eventual scenario in which these elements may come to life. The title of the exhibition, however, suggests that a certain motion is already afoot, be it psychological introspection or a tactical retreat.

Storms and Saints, Danny Ferrel, Galerie Pact
06-24-2021 at 11:00 am

Danny Ferrell’s new paintings subtly respond to our current American predicament through landscape and luminescence. These portraits no longer inhabit the soft-filtered golden glow of idyllic Americana sunrises and sunsets. Instead, Ferrell has dimmed all the lights, exchanging magic hour for dark twilight disrupted by street lights, telephone wires, and lightning. While his interest in vast radiant skies remains, pointing to Hudson River School-style transcendence, Ferrell has added seemingly artificial lighting, from the circular spotlights in The Divide to the rose saturation of The Stormlands.

Paradoxa, Alejandro Cardenas, Almine Rech Gallery
06-30-2021 at 11:00 am

The term PARADOXA stems from one of the seven zoological classes that the eighteenth-century Swedish naturalist Carl von Linné established in order to classify animals in Systema Naturæ. The class titled PARADOXA included not only legendary creatures from medieval bestiaries (such as dragons, the Hydra, or the Phoenix), but also real animals (such as narwhales, pelicans, or antelopes), which did not fit into any of the six other classes. The latter set of taxa was thus a paradox in terms of natural history. Animals in it existed but could not be fully identified with any other category of living animals because of their idiosyncratic character. Their own existence could not be comprehended according to common zoological views of the time. As such, these animals created a gap within von Linné’s system
