FRENCH DESIGN ART EDITION

A NEW SECTOR DEVOTED TO DESIGN AND THE CONTEMPORARY DECORATIVE ARTS

French Design Art Edition

Art Paris is an inclusive art fair that is open to all mediums. In 2025 – a year that marks the centenary of the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts - it is launching the French Design Art Edition. This new feature focusing on design and the contemporary decorative arts, imagined in partnership with Le FRENCH DESIGN directors Jean-Paul Bath and Sandy Saad, will be located on the balconies on the north side of the Grand Palais nave. The exhibition space designed by architects Jakob+MacFarlane will host eighteen exhibitors (interior designers, designers, design companies and galleries specialising in design) with creations by designers and examples of contemporary interior design, both one-off pieces and limited series. To complete this ensemble, a 130m2 group show will explore the fertile mutual inspirations between the worlds of art and design, as well as the relationship between contemporary creation and traditional artisanship and the objects created therewith.

Reda Amalou Design
French architect and designer Reda Amalou (Studio AW2) has selected especially for Art Paris a series of designs from his eponymous brand. Comprising one-offs and limited editions of 8, each is a genuine collector’s item. The materials – walnut, bronze, leather, lacquer and eggshell – were crafted by master artisans and the spectacular results showcase the excellence of their work. Whilst remaining perfectly functional, the LALA cabinet, Panama II lacquered screen, Kimani lounge chair, MOON mirror and ONE 2 ONE love seat are works of art in their own right.

Maxime d’Angeac
Orient Express hotel group creative director Maxime d'Angeac presents his Art Deco inspired collection that includes The Writing Chair and Contemplation Sofa designed in collaboration with Ateliers Jouffre. Other items in this collection embodying artisanal excellence à la française are the marble pedestal table by Blanc Carrare and a woven leather (Lily & Léa) stool that transforms into a side table. Plaster panels by master craftsman Etienne Rayssac and a series of architectural drawings by Alexey Rezvy complete the ensemble.

Nicolas Aubagnac
Nicolas Aubagnac, who has been bringing together contemporary design, traditional craftsmanship and materials of quality since 1997, has created three nature-themed tapestries especially for the French Design Art Edition. As for furniture, Aubagnac’s Gabonese ebony Orion Cabinet (a signed limited edition of 3) featuring parchment panels covered with oxidised silver leaf (onto which photos have been projected to create a mosaic-like effect) pays tribute to craft; the Comète pedestal table showcases refined lacquer work, while the Sinan coffee table reveals exceptional mica marquetry set in a faceted oak base.

Pierre Bonnefille
As artist and master craftsman Pierre Bonnefille fashions his creations, his gestures take on an almost ritual aspect. Working at the crossroads of sculpture, the decorative arts and design, he makes his own materials – metallic and mineral-based powders, lava, marble or earth. His work is characterised by such emblematic pieces as the Rhizome A bookcase, new designs that include the Bronze Painting polychrome fresco, the Rhizome bench, his first creation in bronze made by the Fusions foundry and Stone, a table and shelf that evoke the fluidity of water flowing across moss.

Studio Catoir
The designs of Studio Catoir marry beauty, elegance and an ever-present element of surprise. For their three tactile chairs, the Capeline, Nodo and Petate (designed especially for the French Design Art Edition), Elisa and Michael Catoir were inspired by the age-old, universal crafts of basketry and ropework.

Duvivier Canapés
In the hands of Pauline Angotti, the Barbara armchair by architect and designer Jean-Philippe Nuel has become a veritable work of art. Visual artist Angotti worked on two copies of Nuel’s piece of furniture for Art Paris, turning a functional object into a sculpture by sculpting its form with silk rope in a manner evocative of the traditional Japanese art of Shibari. With its back ornamented with artistic embroidery, her soft and spongy sculpture resonates with the contemporary exploration of art and design.

Atelier Alain Ellouz
If alabaster - a material associated with art over the course of thousands of years - has made a remarkable comeback in contemporary art and design, it is partly thanks to the pioneering vision of Alain Ellouz, who will be presenting "Vésuve” at Art Paris. This collection plays with notions of weightlessness, balance and light, even seeming to defy gravity with the Nuage ceiling light, a suspended backlit sheet of raw alabaster. The sculptural Vésuve coffee table comes in different versions with single, double or triple tabletops made from raw alabaster, its edges left with an almost bark-like texture and the top polished and protected by means of an exclusive proprietary process. The “Incandescence” collection, born out of the collaboration between Ellouz and Danneels & Zafiro, combines alabaster and burnt wood in some truly unique creations.

Jakob+MacFarlane
Since 1998, a transversal approach lies at the heart of the practice of Jakob+MacFarlane. The architecture, design and urban planning practice has been designing furniture collections for several years, notably for the Centre Pompidou and the Frac Centre. Dominique Jakob and Brendan MacFarlane, who designed the French Design Art Edition sector exhibition, are also presenting an exclusive preview of their own furniture characterised by its pure, architectural lines. The limited edition includes the Furniture chairs, the Matrice shelf/room divider and the Matrice coffee table, both of which are made from recycled wood. Providing the perfect finishing touch, an ensemble of lights bears witness to the agency’s dual focus on form and functionality.

Patrick Jouin Edition
What sets architect and designer Patrick Jouin apart is his desire to invent new uses and revitalise traditional techniques. At Art Paris, he is unveiling a first collection under his own name, which makes use of the wide range of materials available in France and the country’s wealth of traditional expertise. The fruit of several years research and experimentation, the enamelled steel dining table Drop and its coffee and pedestal table versions were assembled by Abarocco, whereas the Olo chairs were upholstered in untreated leather by Atelier Le Floch.

Philippe Hurel
Both designer and manufacturer, Maison Philippe Hurel (founded 1911) is presenting an exclusive preview of a pedestal table designed by Constance Guisset for the Villa Médicis in Rome. The artisanal furniture company - a firm favourite with leading luxury goods companies that works with the Mobilier National - is also exhibiting the Moon easy chair by Studioparisien in a unique version hand-embroidered for Art Paris by Cyrielle Leclère. Featuring pure clean lines and precious materials, the Mirage chair by Pierre Gonalons (2025) completes the ensemble.

Jean-Yves Lanvin
Jean-Yves Lanvin, the descendant of fashion designer Jeanne Lanvin - who together with decorator Armand-Albert Rateau was in charge of the exhibition design for the fashion section at the 1925 Exposition internationale at the Grand Palais - is presenting several sculptural objects at Art Paris. Examples include the Wave Console, the Melt Lampadaire and a furniture series entitled “Tectonite”, whose tables made of steel, steel and leather or marble are at the crossroads of art and design.

leLAD Editions
Founded in 2023, leLAD Editions sets out to reinvent traditional know-how and reflect upon production techniques. Esther Guyon and Guillaume Terver design small series and one-off pieces of furniture that are made from materials of the highest quality by local artisans. The Far travertine table, Torch table lamp, Marcel A and B stools and the LMI bookcase were all made especially for Art Paris and illustrate their creators’ desire to find totally new approaches to designing contemporary furniture.

Pauline Leprince Studio
Designer and interior designer Pauline Leprince will be unveiling her new collection "L'Enfermement" at Art Paris, a pedestal table, chair and metal and burnt wood armchair that explore the notion of imprisonment. She will also be exhibiting the T3 Prima Lien table (symbolising the connections between generations), in addition to lighting fixtures that blend tradition and modernity in a tribute to Dan Flavin and Carl André.

Maugoust Chenais Architecture & Edition
The furniture designed by Maugoust Chenais is grounded in the expertise of the master craftsman such as Henryot & Cie with whom they work. Pride of place is given to stringent formal standards, innovation and an attention to how materials change over time. Linen, wool, horsehair, stone, wood and felt are transformed and juxtaposed to fashion bespoke furnishings whose minimalist aesthetic is evocative of Art Deco. Examples include the Reiko screen, Ego rug (woven from a blend of horsehair, silk and leather by Manufacture de Tourly), not forgetting the solid oak and alpaca SOMA daybed.

Bruno Moinard Editions
Maison Bruno Moinard Éditions (founded in 2014) has devised an exhibit for Art Paris divided into four tableaux celebrating crafts and materials. The Leyden table deconstructs traditional marquetry techniques, whereas the Solna sideboard looks to Art Deco for inspiration. The Terzo bar cabinet and Chambord easy chair illustrate the dialogue between design and excellent artisanship. The hand-tufted Veulettes rug made by the Manufacture de Bourgogne and the new Aspen floor lamp (oak, fabric by Dedar) were especially designed for the fair. Visitors will also discover the Lido pendant light created for Veronese, which revisits the 18th century Venetian chandelier. Don't miss a unique installation of nine Aubusson tapestries by Robert Four that draw inspiration from a Bruno Moinard painting.

Rinck
Rinck presents “Opus Memoria”, its new collection that is emblematic of the high standards and resolutely modern vision of this company founded some 180 years ago. The collection includes a standing desk, a chair, the Throne armchair, an occasional table and a cheval glass, as well as lamps and rugs that evoke the atmosphere of an artist's studio. Rare and precious materials and age-old traditional craftsmanship grant a sophisticated and timeless feel to the ensemble. Hammered brass, gold-leaf inlay, silk, alabaster, semi-precious gemstones and Amboyna burl veneer are crafted with sophistication. Each piece is produced as a limited series and bears the company’s stamp.

Roche & Frères
Roche & Frères presents its new collection, an ensemble of limited-edition designs that embody the dialogue between nature, the world of design and exceptional craft. For Mémoire de Glace, Alexandre and Maxence Roche found inspiration in boreal landscapes; the Iceberg sofa and easy chair contrast the softness of velvet and the rigidity of polished steel; evoking as it does a sliver of ice, the Fragment mirror encapsulates ephemerality; whereas the Svalbard stainless steel coffee table revisits the landscapes of the Arctic.

Galerie Zèbres
Combining industrial rigour and poetic artistry, Galerie Zèbres (headed by Antonin Gatier) presents the work of Christian Astuguevieille, François Cante-Pacos and Edouard Boulmier. In a mix of tradition and sensory experimentation, visitors will discover a version of the Moiste chair by Christian Astuguevieille and his TACSAR mirror. Edouard Boulmier’s creations (the Gloria lamp, console table and display case) take their place in the history of industrial design. And finally, the sculptural Bouclier II console table and Tulipe coffee table by François Cante-Pacos round off a dialogue between craft and technology orchestrated by Antonin Gatier, who, in so doing, questions the evolution of artistic practices in contemporary design.
